Indiana Women’s Basketball Struggles in Tough Game Against Oregon

The Indiana women’s basketball team had a tough time on Friday, losing their third game in a row. They played against the Oregon Ducks in Eugene, Oregon, and the Ducks won 54-47. This is Indiana’s first three-game losing streak since 2022.

Coach Teri Moren said after the game, “I take responsibility. We didn’t play like a well-coached team tonight. Every game matters, and we wanted to turn things around.”

The Hoosiers (12-7) were ahead by 10 points in the third quarter, but Oregon (15-5) fought back with a big 10-0 scoring run. In the last five minutes of the game, Indiana struggled to score, managing only two points. They also turned the ball over five times, which helped Oregon take the lead and win.

Both teams had trouble scoring throughout the game. At halftime, Indiana led 25-22, even though their offense wasn’t very strong. By the end of the game, Indiana had made only 38% of their shots, including just 22% of their three-pointers. Oregon shot slightly better and outscored Indiana 20-11 in the final quarter.

Karoline Striplin, a senior, was one of Indiana’s best players in the game. She scored 14 points and made 7 out of 14 shots. However, she also had four turnovers, showing how hard the game was for Indiana.

Another player, Sydney Parrish, was playing in Oregon for the first time since transferring from there to Indiana. She started strong with five points in the first quarter and finished with 10 points, five rebounds, and two steals.

Yarden Garzon, Indiana’s top scorer this season, continued to struggle with her shooting. She made only 4 of her 14 shots and missed all five of her three-point attempts. Garzon has been in a slump recently, and Coach Moren said the team really needs her to score more.

Indiana will play again on Monday against Washington. The Hoosiers hope to avoid losing four games in a row, which hasn’t happened since 2019. Coach Moren said the next couple of days will be important for the team to figure out how to improve. “We have to dig deep and see what we’re made of,” she said.
